4 August 1961 Y. Gagarin 1st man in space Barack Obama is born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Barack, an African name meaning 'blessed,' is the son of Barack Obama Sr., a black Kenyan, and Ann Dunham, a white American. His parents met while his father was a foreign student in Hawaii. They are deceased.
